The reunification of Jerusalem in the Six Day War introduced a new and distinct epoch in the four-thousand-year history of the city. The conquerors would settle alongside the conquered as fellow taxpayers even before the dust of the battle had cleared. Not since the time of the Second Temple and Jesus two thousand years before would the city witness such intense development as was about to overtake it. Not since the time of the Crusaders would the city become such a focus of world interest.
